Last day on the road/Headed headed home/Last day by myself/Driving out of Hell And my feet are tired and I need some water and I think I might pass out/But if I do, I’ll dream of you so I walk without a doubt And if you love me you should tell me right before we die/So I can spend the whole rest of my life looking right into your eyes And if you love me you should tell me right before we go/So I can be the very first one in Heaven to know And you don’t know me well/But you know me better than I know myself/So baby, come on by/I want to look into your eyes and see the sky And my steed is tired and I need some water and this is what it takes/Oh, I couldn’t fake the ocean with table salt and a million lakes/With table salt and a million lakes/With table salt and a million lakes And if you love me you should tell me right before we die/So I can spend the whole rest of my life looking right into your eyes And if you love me you should tell me right before we go/So I can be the very first one in Heaven to know And I’ve been tryna tell you/With every word we speak/That when I say I miss you/Oh, that’s not what I mean ‘Cause when I say M-I-S-S I mean L-O-V-E/Oh, when I say M-I-S-S I mean L-O-V-E/Oh, when I say M-I-S-S I mean L-O-V-E And if you love me you should tell me in a lavender field/So all the bees can bear witness to all the love I feel And if you love me you should tell me in a thunderstorm/So when our two fronts collide it doesn’t matter who’s cold or warm

A-Line 03:58
Sitting at the station, waiting/You said that one would come for me if I’m patient/And there’s that sound that you can hear that means they’re moving/So I stand at attention looking down the track like a loser And I’m waiting for an A-Line train/And the last time that I waited it eventually came/So I’ll just sit here/I’ll just sit here underground/I’ll just sit here/I’ll just sit here underground And I don’t mean to scare you with my eyes/I feel like a kid or like a lightning bolt who used to be somebody else who already died/And I’d write you a letter but I wouldn’t have nothing to say to you/So I’ll write you a letter anyway And I’m waiting for an A-Line train/And the last time that I waited it eventually came/So I’ll just sit here/I’ll just sit here underground/I’ll just sit here/I’ll just sit here underground *** And I’m waiting for an A-Line train/And the last time that I waited it eventually came/So I’ll just sit here/I’ll just sit here underground/I’ll just sit here/I’ll just sit here underground

Rooney 03:53
I’m coming over, we’re gonna talk/About football teams in upstate New York/And your family is a royal bunch/And your sister’s nice but you’re the one I love ‘Cause she’s not you/She’s not you/She’s not you/She’s not you And Rooney if I told you, you’d probably laugh it off just like everyone before/And Rooney if you love me I’d cover up my flaws just like every movie star/Just like every movie star And I’ve seen your face in different lights/And I can’t think of one that I didn’t like/And all the other girls, oh, they think that I might/But I never will, ‘cause you’re on my mind And they’re not you/They’re not you/They’re not you/They’re not you And Rooney if I told you, you’d probably laugh it off just like everyone before/And Rooney if you love me I’d cover up my flaws just like every movie star/Just like every movie star *** Rooney if I told you, you’d probably laugh it off just like everyone before/And Rooney if you love me I’d cover up my flaws just like every movie star/Just like every movie star

I wish this floating dock would move/So I could sail away with you You told me you loved me and you kissed me on the cheek/But I don’t know you so I don’t know what that means I only wish you’d tell me or I’d tell you/’Cause darling, your presence is like lightning from the blue If I kissed you on that floating dock, I’m afraid you’d leave/Or worse, that you’d kiss me back and I’d turn out not to be all that I’m cracked up to be It’s happened before, but I don’t think it’ll happen with you/Just know that I’d kiss you if you asked me to I only wish there was a way to tell you without telling you/’Maybe you’ve noticed that’s what I’m trying to do And you make me feel like lava coming down from on high/And I just want to surround you and solidify ***

about

We did these songs as an attempt to update them to reflect what they really sound like. Though we love our old, strange recordings from the basement of the Y, the truth is that we made them before we really started performing regularly as a band, and so we ended up with a great deal of distance between the experience of our live shows and the sound on our record.

When we went out to record with Karen, I knew that I wanted to make an attempt to show what these songs really sound like five years down the line. She understood us and the songs beautifully, and Loss, Angeles was born. I’m proud to say that these songs are no longer my best, but they definitely were at the time, so I’m very happy to give them the shine they deserve with these recordings.

At the time I wrote these songs, I was grappling with the many dimensions of strong infatuation. Can you trust those feelings? Can you trust the person you feel them for? Love and doubt went to intractable war in my mind, creating paralysis. I was constantly stuck at a fork in the road, determined to stick it out in unfulfilling relationships, denying and distrusting my true desires, and holding candles for people who were physically, spiritually, or emotionally very very far away.

The love I felt overpowered everything except my fear. I defined myself by my desires, but I never acted on them. I carved a house into a pillar of salt.

I am a more decisive, more motivated person than I was then. I mythologize less and consider more. The love I feel is for people, not ideas. Sometimes I worry now that I have too little love for ideas. But ultimately, my friends, an idea cannot love you back. Though they are unpredictable, unreadable, and too beautiful to gaze upon for long, you must love real people if you ever want to be loved yourself.
